Professor Joseph Walsh
Professor Joseph Walsh is the Munster Technological University’s (MTU) Head of School and Director of the (IMaR) Research Centre. In addition, he is the Principal Investigator for the AgriTech Ireland Cluster, the Executive Director of the AgriTech Centre of Excellence (ACE), the Co-Principal Investigator at Lero, and the Principal Investigator at the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software.
He spearheads the innovative “Rethinking Engineering Education in Ireland (REEdI),” a groundbreaking €8.96 million project, funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) in Ireland under the Human Capital Initiative. His areas of interest include bio-instrumentation, robotics and automation, autonomous systems, intelligent mechatronics and sensors, dairy technology, and STEM education. With over 20 years of expertise in academia and industry doing research and development, in the last five years, he has obtained more than €20 million in research funding and contributed to over 200 scholarly papers. He has made a substantial contribution to several innovation projects that seek to develop new technologies for the advancement of industrial instrumentation, automation, intelligent sensing systems, and agriculture.
He oversees several industry-specific projects that resulted in the production of IP IP & license contracts with companies like Kostal, Tricel, Liebherr, DairyMaster & McHales
